The Woods We Use

The beauty of every Feline Forest piece begins with the wood itself. We work with a variety of domestic hardwoods, including Walnut, Cherry, and Maple. We also seek out exotic hardwoods, chosen for their color, grain, and natural character like Zebrawood, Wenge, Purple Heart and Canarywood.

Rather than adding pigmented stains, we allow the natural beauty of each board to remain the focus through the use of clear, natural finishing.This allows the dramatic grain patterns to stand on their own and give each piece its own unique personality

Because every board is different, no two cats are ever exactly alike. Variations in grain, tone, and figure are not imperfections — they are part of what makes handcrafted hardwood décor so special.

Our Process

We are very proud of our craft. Every Feline Forest piece begins as a carefully selected piece of solid hardwood. Once the initial shaping is complete, each cat is carefully refined to create the smooth curves and familiar silhouettes that make our designs so distinctive.

Every piece goes through an extensive process that includes softening the edges, progressive sanding and multiple coats of natural, hand-wiped finish. This brings out the inherent beauty, depth, and character of the wood.

While modern tools help shape the foundation of each piece, the final character comes from the hands-on attention given throughout the refining and finishing process — transforming each piece of hardwood into something meaningful, lasting, and uniquely its own.
